First Webinar on Language Learning & Teaching – WeLLT 2020

In addressing the present issue in language learning and teaching in the era Covid-19, the Centre for Modern Languages, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) in collaboration with Universitas Ahmad Dahlan hosted a Webinar on Language Learning and Teaching (WeLLT) 2020 on 28 October 2020. This virtual session was organized in conjunction with International on Language Learning and Teaching (ICoLLT) that will be held in 2021.

MUET Reading: Intensive Class

11 March 2020 – To better prepare UMP MUET candidates this year, the Centre for Modern Languages (CML) Competency Unit took the initiative to organise a three-hour intensive class specifically focusing on the reading component. The session was held at Block X, Gambang Campus involving quite a number of interested students. On a side note, all of them were UMP final-year students who intended to pursue their bachelor’s degree education straight after Diploma graduation.

‘Strategizing online engagement through digital assessments in KALAM’

Since Covid-19 has changed the dynamics of English language teaching and learning, the need to constantly be aware of the current technologies is important to suit the current time and challenges. Knowledge of the use of KALAM and other online technologies is needed to ensure the use of online teaching and learning is easier, smoother, and effective. KALAM is a Learning Management System (LMS) used in UMP to measure ‘blended learning’ achievement of the university. Hence, the need to master its features and tools must be an on-going effort for the academics.

MUET Online Class: Reading Component

11 September 2020 – The implementation of Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) in Malaysia did not stop the Centre for Modern Languages (CML) Competency Unit from accommodating UMP MUET candidates with the necessary preparation including organising a MUET online class for them. In general, the reading slot was scheduled for three hours and participated by a number of students across faculties. The instructor, Puan Azimah Ahmad Zaki was taken by surprise when a lecturer from the Faculty of Science and Industrial Technology (FIST) had joined the session till the end in the spirit of knowledge seeking.

Assessment in ESP

Pekan, 15 December 2020 – When we assess our students say, on interviews or technical presentations, whose assessment criteria are we using? This question was posed by Associate Professor Dr Abdul Halim bin Abdul Raof, our invited speaker, from Language Academy, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He presented in a two-hour online webinar which was held on Tuesday, 15 December 2020 from 3:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. under CML Guest Speaker Series organised by MScTILS programme.
