PREPARATORY INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAMME (PIE)
The Preparatory Intensive English (PIE) Program is an English language course offered by Centre for Modern Languages, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah. It is a foundation program for international students about to embark on their undergraduate study as well as to cater for specific needs of participants.
This course is designed for international students who do not have any CEFR-aligned B1 equivalent result.
The programme comprises reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar components. Students will attend 11 weeks synchronous online learning sessions which also include self-access activities. At the end of the programme, students are required to sit for MUET on Demand (MOD) examination conducted by Malaysia Examination Council. Students can exit the programme if they achieve Band 3.0 or better in MOD. The programme has three intakes per year – February, May, and August
Upon completion of this programme, the students will be able to:
1. evaluate spoken information by distinguishing between facts, opinions, and inferences in different listening contexts.
2. demonstrate effective communication skills by articulating ideas clearly, responding appropriately, and engaging in meaningful discussions.
3. analyse various texts by identifying key ideas, arguments, and supporting details to enhance comprehension and critical thinking.
4. construct well-organized essays by integrating appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and cohesive devices to convey clear and logical ideas.
5. apply grammatical rules accurately in written and spoken communication to enhance clarity and coherence.
