Introduction
The field of research in language studies offers a rich academic landscape, encompassing theoretical and applied approaches that examine language structure, use, and functions in society. Postgraduate research is organized into three major branches: Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, and Linguistics. Each provides unique yet complementary perspectives for investigating human language.
Language Studies
Language Studies explores both the structural aspects of one or more languages and the cultural contexts in which these languages are used. It fosters an understanding of linguistic diversity and intercultural communication, preparing researchers to engage with global language issues.
Applied Linguistics
Applied Linguistics focuses on the practical application of linguistic theories to address real-world issues such as language learning, teaching, and assessment. This branch bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and its implementation in educational and professional contexts.
Linguistics
Linguistics examines the structure, meaning, and sound systems of language from a theoretical perspective. It investigates how language operates at all levels, from phonetics to discourse, providing a scientific foundation for understanding language as a cognitive and social phenomenon.
