UMPSA CHINESE DEBATE TEAM UMPSA CHINESE DEBATE TEAM AT 4TH SUNWAY MANDARIN DEBATE
1 March 2025 – The Chinese Debate Team from the Mandarin Language Society (MLS) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) participated in the 4th Sunway University Mandarin Debate Tournament. The UMPSA team sent five debaters to the debate competition, they are Tai Xin Ying, Chew Min Him, Siow Xin Yi, Chong Yu Kai, and Lim Jia Xin, aiming to enhance their debating skills and gain valuable experience.
In the first match, UMPSA (Negative) faced Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Engineering Campus (Affirmative). The debate began at 10:00 AM, with both sides engaging in a fierce exchange of arguments. In the end, UMPSA narrowly lost with a score of 4-5 mark. However, UMPSA’s first and second speakers on the Negative team received Best Debater nominations for their outstanding performances.
In the second match at 1:30 PM, UMPSA (Affirmative) faced Taylor’s University (Negative). After an intense debate, UMPSA secured a 6-3 victory! Additionally, the first speaker of the Affirmative team was awarded Best Debater of the match.
Although UMPSA did not advance to the semifinals, with a total score of 10 points, the team gained invaluable experience and continued to grow throughout the competition. With perseverance and dedication, they are set to achieve even greater success in future tournaments and bring pride to UMPSA!
