UMP Students Sat for MUET amidst Covid-19 Outbreak
30th January 2021 - Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on higher education institutions (HEI) around the world. In Malaysia, a large number of students are having trouble fulfilling entrance requirements for undergraduate studies as they have been unable to sit for the Malaysian University English Test (MUET), due to several postponement to various movement control orders (MCOs) imposed since March last year.
During this challenging period, cooperation between agencies like the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM) and test centres like Universiti Malaysia Pahang seems very important. For the first time in the history of UMP, a total of 131 students sat for the MUET components; Reading, Listening, and Writing, under strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) in UMP.
Ensuring the tests would run smoothly and safely, preparation was done involving staff from Centre for Modern Languages (Shamsul Harbi and Mohd Jihan Hassan), Centre for Human Sciences (Muhammad Azlan Abd Mubin and Muhamad Syafarin Samsuri), PTMK and Security Unit. Four stations were prepared in the hallway of Multipurpose Hall UMP Pekan and each station equipped with an automated temperature scanner, hand sanitizer, and a QR code poster.
Students were required to fill the health declaration form and those with a temperature of above 37.5°C and those who are symptomatic were not allowed to sit for the test until they received clearance from medical officer. Tight measure was taken to conform to the prescribed SOPs.
