Online International Elocution on Prosperous Malaysia 2020
On 19th to 25th October 2020, the Online International Elocution on Prosperous Malaysia 2020 was organised by Orator Club in collaboration with the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (SAFFAD), Universiti Malaysia Pahang and the Persatuan Penyair Malaysia (Penyair).
With the theme ‘Development, Harmony and Beauty of Malaysia’, the expressive competition has tremendously received encouraging participation across the globe with over 116 participants including teachers, lecturers, government staff, university and school students, as well as the general public.
Among the internationals involved were lecturers and students from China; Guangxin University for Nationalities, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. The competition was exceptionally conducted in a variety of languages including Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil, Arabic and Korean. The Best Speakers were just announced on previous December 4, 2020 where 30 speakers were awarded with e-certificates of participation and appreciation. Well done everyone!
The judging panel was made up of diverse language teachers from Centre for Modern Languages, UMP; among those were Ms. Juwairiah Osman, Mr Shafeirul Zaman Abd Majid, Ms. Hanisah Bon (Kasbon), Ms. Azimah Ahmad Zaki, Ms. Nurul Nadia Binti Muhammad, Ms. Alia Najaa Md Nor, Ms. Jamilah Bebe Mohamad, Ms. Kang Mei Feng, Mr Shamsul Harbi, Ms. Noraisah Nurul Fatwa Mohd Razali, Ms. Nur Syafawati Sabuan, Ms. Azlina Binti Mohd Ariffin, Mr Mohammad Baihaqi Hasni, Ms. Mardhiyyah Zamani, Ms. Syahrina Ahmad, Mr Mohd Iszuani Mohd Hassan and Mr Khairul Bahri Abdul Samad. Aside from that, the global competition was also judged by some of the experts and the key players in the field such as Assoc. Prof. Dr Norazlina Hj. Mohd Kiram, Assoc. Prof. Dr Norazimah Zakaria, Dr Azwin Arif Abdul Rahim, Dr Youventharan A/L Duraisamy, Dr Rossilawathy Sheriff, Mr Uthya Surian A/L Arjunan, Tuan Mohd Asri Mohd Husin, members of the Malaysian Poets Association as well as Orator Club alumni. Serious efforts were made to ensure both virtual and face-to-face assessing sessions were conducted as stipulated in order to choose the cream of the crop against the many talented orators and those who were able to deliver empowering and impactful messages and ideas.
According to the Competition Advisor, Ms. Juwairiah Osman, as well as Ms. Nurayuni Norli, the Programme Director who is also an engineering student at UMP, they did not expect to receive overwhelming response from the crowd, as such online international elocution was actually the first organised by the UMP Orator Club. They both expressed their gratitude to all participants for their encouraging support. The President of the Orator Club for the 2020/2021 session, Mr. Syahmi Aiman Adnan also thanked the SAFFAD UMP, PENYAIR and all the participants for supporting the competition organised by this club.
Looking further ahead, hopefully more such competitions and programmes will be conducted to help propel Malaysia to the next level of its development, harmony and beauty.
