MUET MARVELS: EQUIPPING STUDENTS FOR BAND EXCELLENCE
GAMBANG, 19 March 2025 - In a bid to boost student confidence and performance in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET), the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully hosted a full-day event titled “MUET Marvels: Your Ultimate Guide to Band Excellence!”on 19 March 2025. Held at Tun Teja Hall from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m., the event catered specifically to 79 Foundation in Science and Technology students, focusing on enhancing their preparedness for the MUET Speaking and Writing components.
The session featured two experienced language teachers from the Centre for Modern Languages. Ms. Nor Suhardiliana binti Sahar conducted the Writing session, sharing tips and strategies to tackle both Writing Task 1 and Task 2 effectively. Meanwhile, Ms. Noor Azlinda binti Zainal Abidin led the Speaking session, offering detailed guidelines and techniques for responding to Speaking Task 1 and Task 2 with confidence and clarity.
Participants also received an informative and comprehensive briefing on other MUET components – Listening and Reading – and some answering techniques, which was delivered by Ms. Nor Suhardiliana. The interactive sessions were designed to empower students with practical strategies to improve their band scores.
The programme received positive feedback from attendees, who appreciated the clarity, relevance, and real-world applicability of the content delivered. “The workshop made me realise that I need to work more on Writing Task 1 because of the unfamiliarity of the format”, said Afeef Hamizan. Meanwhile, Cheong Hui Ven said that before the workshop, she was not confident with her speaking skills due to incorrect pronunciation and lack of vocabulary. However, she has now become more confident after learning the tips and strategies to answer MUET Speaking questions. Another student named S. Pritthikhaa shared that her favourite part of the workshop was when she was called out to write her answer for Task 1 Writing activity. Ariesya Soffea highlighted that the Speaking session was very interactive and loaded with tips and tricks to master MUET Speaking.
Overall, “MUET Marvels: Your Ultimate Guide to Band Excellence!” successfully created a supportive and enriching session that helped UMPSA Foundation students sharpen their MUET skills and boost their self-confidence. With MUET being a vital requirement for university graduation and career advancement, such initiatives are seen as instrumental in supporting student success. The active participation and encouraging responses from students reflect the value of such initiatives in preparing them not only for the MUET test but also for their academic and professional journeys. By prioritising practical learning and confidence-building, the event has left a lasting impact on the students’ readiness to face MUET with greater determination and clarity.
