EMBRACING THE ENDEMIC PHASE – MScTILS GOES HYBRID
August 2022 – These couple of years have witnessed teaching and learning evolve in unexpected ways, with all the banes and boons tagging along as the consequence of the COVID19 affecting every nook and cranny of our lives. Master of Science in Technology-Integrated Language Studies (MScTILS) has also been in that boat sailing through the course passing all the hurdles that the pandemic has caused but that’s the way the cookies crumble.
Way back in the first quarter of 2020, we started having online classes with hiccups in our first few steps, experimenting with using all sorts of online platforms like Zoom, Google Meet and Webex. Lesson aids such as slides and additional notes have been made more interactive and online learning time has increased many times over and since then we have grown by leaps and bounds.
Today, transitioning into the endemic phase of COVID19, classes are going on in hybrid mode, a blend of online and physical presence. MScTILS, as the name implies, embraces these evolutions since technology is the essence of the programme. We offer courses that integrate the use of technology, in all aspects of teaching and learning which include class content, activities and assessments.
Courses like Technology in Language Studies, Web-Based Tools in Language Students, Instructional Design, Language for Specific Purposes, Technology-Enhanced Language Learning Tasks and Language Learning Processes emphasise the use of technology in language learning, focusing on current and emerging trends of diverse technology use, preparing learners for practical applicability for their professional advancement as well as life-long learning enhancement.
Face-to-face classes will be conducted at UMP Pekan Campus providing the opportunity to our learners to experience state-of-the art technology that has been equipped in all CML Multimedia Language laboratories. Online classes and assessments will also be part of the teaching and learning process to be conducted mostly on MSTeams and KALAM, the official online learning platform at UMP.
Learners will have the chance to have 40% of contact hours with the instructors face-to-face and 60% class meetings will be conducted online. For anyone interested to enrol in our MScTILS programme, below are some details:
