FICTION FACTORY – NOVEL – LAST CHAPTER WRITING COMPETITION 2022
15 May 2022 – Intelligentsia Club UMP had successfully conducted a Fiction Factory Programme - a writing competition. The programme was held for 2 weeks which started from 23 April until 5 May 2022 via an online platform.
This program was an initiative to spark students’ interest in creative writing and to also encourage and develop innovative and creative thinking among the students.
The participants of this event were UMP students and the jury of this program was Ms. Fathiah Izzati Mohamad Fadzillah, a language teacher at Centre for Modern Languages (CML), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). In general, a total of 18 students joined the writing competition.
The theme and instructions of the writing competition were announced to participants on the first day of the competition. Participants were assigned a period of time to produce the last chapter of the writing based on the theme and instructions given.
After a week of preparation, participants submitted their writings on the google form provided. The winners were then announced on the INTELLIGENTSIA Instagram page on 15 May 2022.
This program helped participants to express themselves creatively through words and develop their emotional skills. Hence, by creating creative writing, participants can channel their emotions and develop a way of managing a situation.
Throughout the competition, the participants were able to show empathy with the characters, express different emotions of the characters and manage difficult situations experienced by the characters.
It is hoped that through this program, participants can freely express their feelings and empathize with others while sharpening their writing skills. This program also received encouraging response from the participants and the goals of the program were achieved. We hope to organize similar events in the future.
