COMMUNITY SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM “PAGES OF THE PAST” SULTAN ABU BAKAR MUSEUM IN PEKAN, PAHANG
PEKAN, 12 October 2025- The Mandarin Language Society (MLS) of University Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and the Little Star Reading Club have successfully organised a Community Service Responsibility Program (CSR) called “Pages of the Past”, which included visits to the Sultan Abu Bakar Museum Pekan and reading activities.
The event aimed to help primary and secondary school students gain a deeper understanding of Pahang’s history and culture, while cultivating their interest in reading and expanding their knowledge beyond the classroom. A total of 13 parents and 14 children participated enthusiastically in the program.
The event officially began at 10:00 a.m. with an opening speech delivered by the representative of the Sultan Abu Bakar Museum, Zulaikah. Following that, parents and children were guided by three facilitators from the Mandarin Language Society, who conducted a parent-child morning exercise session to promote interaction and strengthen family bonds.
Kang Mei Feng, the Mandarin teacher from Centre for Modern Languages, UMPSA led a storytelling session featuring two inspiring picture books. The first, “The Midnight Library” by David Zeltser, encourages children to cherish books, love reading and explore the unknown. The second, “The Wolf Should Be Careful” by Chika Shigemori, uses humour and plot twists to teach children not to judge others based on appearances or prejudice. These engaging stories conveyed moral values and inspired children to think critically about right and wrong.
Next, parents and children participated in a shared reading activity to foster focus and enthusiasm for reading. Afterwards, the facilitators guided participants in a creative sand art session, where families collaborated to express their imagination through creativity. The group then proceeded to tour the Sultan Abu Bakar Museum, discovering the rich history and cultural heritage of Pahang through various artifacts and traditional artworks.
Finally, the event concluded with Program Director, Tan Khai Xuan, presenting souvenirs to the museum representative, Zulaikah. The event officially ended at 1:30 p.m.
