CML STAFF IN ACTION: GEARING UP FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE WITH TTX!

PEKAN, 18 February 2024 – The Occupational Safety and Health Management Office (OSHMO), UMPSA organised the Emergency Tabletop Exercise (TTX) Course at the Incubator Area, Level 5, Faculty of Computing, UMPSA Pekan. The participants included representatives from the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and members of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee from various centres and faculties at UMPSA. Representing the Centre for Modern Languages (CML) were Mohd Aizat Zulkifli, Siti Norzaimalina Abd Majid, and Siti Ainun Jariyah Hassan.

This workshop allowed participants to expand their knowledge and engage in a Q&A session with the speaker, Ts. Dr. Azizan Ramli, Certified Examiner and Crisis Management Planner (BCMI) from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology. The workshop introduced participants to Basic Occupational First Aid (BOFA) and Psychological First Aid (PFA) while guiding them through the Emergency Tabletop Exercise (TTX), which focused on potential emergencies and their management procedures. According to Dr. Azizan, “Knowledge and skills in basic first aid techniques are no longer an option but have become a necessity. They are needed not only to meet the needs of an organisation but also to support everyone's well-being.”

The session covered issues such as the roles and responsibilities of ERT team members, among others. Participants also underwent the Emergency Tabletop Exercise (TTX), focusing on managing potential emergencies.

Group work including discussions and role-plays was among the training modules in which participants undertook assigned roles such as Incident Commander, Emergency Coordinator, Building Marshal, and many others. Interestingly, during each TTX incident, 'injection' elements were introduced to assess how team members managed unexpected events at the emergency site, such as discovering a victim left inside the building and other unforeseen situations. Additionally, OSH representatives participated in the role-play, evaluating the session and providing feedback. The workshop concluded with a summary and feedback on the TTX.

This course provided valuable exposure and experience from an ERT expert. This knowledge is essential for ensuring preparedness for any emergency or unforeseen incident that may arise. Overall, the centre aims to enhance its ability to manage unexpected situations and emergencies effectively in the future.
