DEL CONFIRMATION OF MARKS AND PRE-JPF MEETINGS SEMESTER 1 2024/2025

PEKAN, 17-19 February 2025 - The Division of English Language (DEL), Centre for Modern Languages (CML) conducted Confirmation of Marks (CoM) meetings from 17 to 18 February 2025 and Pre-JPF meeting on 19 February 2025 at CML meeting rooms. These meetings involved three diploma courses, and 11 bachelor’s degree courses offered in Semester 1, 2024/2025. 

The objectives of the meetings are to present and finalise the overall marks for assessments, discuss issues related to students' performance, as well as suggest continuous quality improvement for each course. These meetings involve coordinators and instructors who teach the courses in the current semester.

For Semester 1, 2024/2025, there are three diploma courses offered to the students. The courses and the coordinators are:

- ULE1212 Essential English (Coordinator: Siti Ainun Jariyah Hassan), 

- ULE1222 English for Academic Communication (Coordinator: Fathiah Izzati Mohamad Fadzillah)

- ULE2232 English for Professional Communication (Coordinator: Sarah Zulkiple). 

Meanwhile, there are 11 courses offered to bachelor’s degree students. The courses and coordinators are:

- ULE1310 Fundamentals of English Language (Coordinator: Nurul Nadia Muhammad)

- ULE1322 English for Academic Communication (Coordinator: Aisyah Hanum Abu Bakar)

- ULE2332 English for Technical Communication (Coordinator: Nurkarimah Yusof)

- ULE2342 English for Professional Communication (Coordinator: Marziah Ramli)

- ULE1352 Essential English (Coordinator: Khairul Amri Abdul Aziz)

- ULE1362 English for Vocational Purposes (Coordinator: Mohd Shafiq Abdul Jabar) 

- ULE3712 Critical Thinking Through Literature (Coordinator: Hamizah Zahari)

- ULE3722 Creative Writing (Coordinator: Shamsul Harbi)

- ULE3772 Interpersonal Effectiveness (Coordinator: Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahim)

- ULE3732 English Mechanics (Coordinator: Rosnani Ismail)

- ULE3783 Score IELTS (Coordinator: Dr. Ezihaslinda Ngah).

According to the Head of Programme (Division of English Language), Dr. Umi Kalsom Masrom, these meetings are important to ensure the accuracy and fairness of students' marks while maintaining the academic integrity of the assessment process before finalisation of marks. The meetings are a part of standard operating procedure before result finalisation. 

Moreover, Nor Suhardiliana Sahar, the coordinator for ULE1113 Preparatory English, highlighted the importance of CoM and Pre-JPF meetings in finalising students’ marks, ensuring that all instructors are well-informed about issues presented and solutions to address the issues, and understand what and why the decisions are made. 

Marziah Ramli, the coordinator for ULE2342, added that these meetings are crucial to ensure instructors’ transparency and accountability when giving grades to students, address issues more effectively since instructors can exchange opinions about what and how actions should be taken, and offer suggestions for course improvement in the future. 

The Division of English Language remains committed to continuously improving quality to ensure students receive the best possible learning outcomes. The CoM and pre-JPF meetings serve as essential platforms for maintaining assessment consistency, fostering collaboration among instructors, and ensuring transparency in decision-making. 

By facilitating discussions, addressing challenges, and implementing solutions, these meetings contribute to a more structured and effective approach to course management and student evaluation.
