CML SHINES IN UMPSA INTER-PTJ FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

GAMBANG, 29 July 2025 - The Centre for Modern Languages (CML) athletes made a strong impression at the Inter-PTJ Penalty Shoot-out Competition during the UMPSA Sports Carnival 2025, showcasing determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. 

Competing against strong teams from various departments and faculties, the CML athletes demonstrated solid defense, sharp coordination, and unwavering determination, earning praise from spectators and fellow competitors. 

In their opening match, CML put up a spirited fight, with goals from Shamsul Harbi and Shahanor Firdaus Ismail, but narrowly fell to the DITEC team. The squad quickly bounced back in their second match, securing a victory over the Chancellery team with impressive goals from Dr. Abdullah Adnan and Shahanor Firdaus Ismail. Maintaining their momentum, CML defeated Pusat Sains Kemanusiaan (PSK) in the following game, thanks to a decisive strike by Shafiq Abdul Jabar. 

This strong performance propelled CML into the quarterfinals, one of their best showings in recent years. In a challenging clash against DITEC, Dr. Abdullah Adnan netted a goal for CML, but despite their relentless effort, the team bowed out with a 3–1 result. 

Team captain Dr. Abdullah Adnan expressed pride in the squad’s effort: “We played with heart and gave our best on the field. It was a great experience that brought our team closer together while representing CML with pride.” 

The competition not only highlighted CML’s athletic potential but also strengthened camaraderie among its staff, aligning with UMPSA’s mission to promote a healthy and active lifestyle within the campus community.
