CENTRE FOR MODERN LANGUAGES SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS MUET WEBINAR 2024 WITH UNITEN, ENHANCING EXAM READINESS FOR OVER 50 STUDENTS

5 July 2024 –Centre for Modern Languages’ Competency Unit successfully conducted MUET Webinar 2024 CSR Programme in collaboration with Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Kampus Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Bandar Muadzam Shah, Rompin, Pahang branch. The webinar was attended by 50 first-year students from UNITEN enrolled in Diploma in Business Studies, Diploma in Accounting, Foundation in Accounting, and Foundation in Business Studies programmes.

The primary objectives of this webinar were to familiarise participants with the latest MUET format and provide strategies for answering questions in all four language skills; speaking, reading, writing, and listening. As the participants are expected to sit for MUET in the second session, commencing on 23 July 2024, this webinar served as a platform for them to gain detailed insights into examiners’ expectations for candidates' answers.

The webinar was spearheaded by Ms. Alia Najaa Md Nor, who served as the programme director for this MUET Webinar. She emphasised the value of this collaboration in preparing students for the upcoming MUET. She also expressed her appreciation towards UNITEN for their cooperation and wished for further collaboration between the two universities, highlighting their shared focus on digital growth, research, and improving students' English language skills. The webinar was also managed by Ms. Nur Anisnabila, who successfully supervised the technical aspects of the event via Microsoft Teams.

The sessions were led by four experienced senior language teachers from the Department of English Language at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA); Ms. Rosnani Ismail, Ms. Nabila Abdul Malek, Ms. Nor Suhardiliana Sahar, and Ms. Noraisah Nurul Fatwa Mohd Razali. The webinar began at 8:30 a.m. with Reading session, followed by Listening and Writing sessions. The programme concluded with Speaking session, which ended at 12:30 p.m. The speakers were very helpful in imparting their knowledge and sharing their valuable experience with the participants. Each session was accompanied by a Q&A segment, where the speaker addressed inquiries and answered questions from the floor.

The smooth running of the webinar was also due to the support from Ms. Afrina Safiyya Ros Mazlan Noor, a UNITEN student who moderated the webinar from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Her participation helped improve her public speaking skills and ability to manage online webinars. Overall, the webinar received encouraging feedback from the participants and UNITEN. The Competency Unit hopes that the essential answering strategies provided will be useful in helping the students ace the upcoming MUET.
