UHL2412 ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION
UHL2400 FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE
The course aims to equip students with the four language skills (i.e. listening, reading, speaking and writing) as well as study skills which include note-taking and note making techniques, and active listening skills for academic success. Students will have the opportunity to read texts of various topics by incorporating essential reading skills. Additionally, students are also expected to demonstrate effective presentation skills in delivering speeches. Students will also be required to write thesis-support essays, applying appropriate writing styles and organization as well as integrating APA writing conventions. E-learning platforms will be an integral part of the course. This course is defined within the CEFR B1 to B2 level.
By the end of the semester, students should be able to:
CO1: Construct written and/or spoken responses using appropriate and accurate language (Bloom 3)
CO2: Identify specific and significant information from various texts and purposes (Bloom 3)
CO3: Apply effective presentation skills using appropriate non-verbal cues (Bloom 3)
CO4: Distinguish salient information from different sources (Bloom 4)
