MESMERISING MALAYSIANS AT HE ELCA 2024
Oops, they did it again!
For the second consecutive year, the same team walked away with the 2nd runner-up title in the Harmony Huddle (a fancy name for choral speaking) competition at the Higher Education English Language Carnival (HE ELCa) 2024. The UMPSA ‘Mesmerising Malaysians’ line-up which comprised of ten speakers and one conductor competed against eight other representatives from notable universities, such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).
What makes it even sweeter is that the HE ELCa this year was hosted by UMPSA, and its closing ceremony was held on 9 November 2024 at the University Sports Complex in Gambang Campus. In reflecting on their achievement, the team leader, Muhammad Arif bin Amran who is currently pursuing a Bachelor Degree of Technology in Industrial Electronic Automation (Honours), expressed pride in representing their university and highlighted the collaborative spirit that fueled their success. The consistent recognition at such a prestigious event highlights the dedication to excellence upheld by their faculties. On top of that, special commendation was given to their Centre for Modern Languages (CML) English teachers, Puan Azimah Ahmad Zaki and Puan Farah Liyana Ahmad A’azmey, for tirelessly training them to achieve this success for the second time. He added, “Without a strong script that could capture the essence of this year’s HE ELCa theme (Lingo, Tech, and Trads Unite!) our performance would not have been as impactful. So, thank you to Puan Azimah and Dr. Wan Jumani for crafting “Mesmerising Malaysians” that effectively embodied the theme of “Celebrating Diversity: Our Unique Identities” for the Harmony Huddle competition.” On a side note, Team UMPSA was represented by the following students:
