INNOVATIVE APPROACHES IN LANGUAGE TEACHING & LEARNING: INSIGHTS FROM KSS 5.0

PEKAN, 3 October 2025 – Centre for Modern Languages (CML), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah is committed to fostering the culture of knowledge and collaboration among its teaching staff. In line with this objective, the Centre organised the fifth Knowledge Sharing Session (KSS 5.0) at the Bilik Mesyuarat Fakulti, Pekan campus.

Held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the programme brought together language instructors from diverse fields to share insights, experiences, and best practices in language teaching and learning. The fifth edition featured five presentations delivered by nine experienced CML instructors, who presented engaging topics across multiple dimensions, including language, emotions, culture, and pedagogy.

Dr Ruhil Amal Azmuddin, Mr Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahim, and Ms Amy Zulaikha Mohd Ali opened the floor with their presentation entitled “Growing in Emotional Intelligence,” which highlighted the role of emotional intelligence in effective teaching and learning. Following this, Ms Nurkarimah Yusof, Ms Rosnani Ismail, and Ms Noraisah Nurul Fatwa Mohd Razali shared innovative teaching and learning strategies in their presentation titled “Empowering Learning: Alternative Assessments for a New Generation.”

Meanwhile, Mr Shamsul Harbi and Ms Leong Hui Theng showcased the positive emotional impact of music and performance in their presentation titled “Healing Aku Punya Style! Kesan Positif Konsert.” In another presentation, Ms Zatul Amrah Mohammad Nazri and Ms Mahzaton Aqma Abu Talip introduced Korean “Drinking Games (술게임 sul-gae-im)” as a creative approach to language learning. Finally, Mr Mohammad Baihaqi Hasni shared his study, “Error Analysis in Arabic Language Among Engineering Students at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah,” which drew particular attention for addressing linguistic challenges faced by technical students in mastering a foreign language.

The session was more than an academic discussion; it served as a platform to inspire innovative ideas for advancing language teaching through emotional, cultural, and linguistic approaches. The Dean of the CML expressed sincere appreciation to all presenters and participants for their commitment and enthusiasm in sharing knowledge. It is hoped that programme like this will continue as part of CML’s efforts to promote lifelong learning among its members.
