CENTRE FOR MODERN LANGUAGES CONGRATULATES 3MT REPRESENTATIVES, PREPARING THEM FOR UNIVERSITY-LEVEL COMPETITION

Pekan, 2 May 2025 — The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is an academic research communication competition that challenges postgraduate students to present their thesis or dissertation in under three minutes, using a single static slide and language that is accessible to a non-specialist audience. Originally developed by the University of Queensland, Australia, 3MT aims to cultivate students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills, enabling them to effectively explain their research in a concise, engaging, and impactful manner.

At Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), the 3MT competition is held annually at the university level by the Institute of Postgraduate Studies, bringing together participants from various faculties and centres to showcase their research. Winners from each faculty or centre compete at this level to represent their disciplines and demonstrate their ability to communicate complex research ideas clearly and succinctly.

Following the successful closed-door Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at the Centre for Modern Languages (CML) on 25 April 2025, CML proudly announces that all three presenters have been selected to represent the centre at the upcoming university-level 3MT competition organized by the Institute of Postgraduate Studies, UMPSA.

CML extends its heartfelt congratulations to all three participants and wishes them the best of luck as they prepare to compete at the university level. Their selection is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and ability to communicate their research effectively within a challenging format.

In preparation for the competition, CML organized a special knowledge-sharing session featuring Wan Noor Farah Wan Shamsuddin, the 2023 3MT winner for Social Science category, who is also a postgraduate student at CML and an English language instructor. During the session, Wan Noor Farah shared valuable insights, strategies, and practical tips from her own 3MT journey, inspiring the participants and equipping them with effective approaches for delivering impactful presentations.

The Centre for Modern Languages is confident that its representatives will continue to shine and uphold the centre’s commitment to research excellence, innovation, and effective communication at the university level.
