APA CITATION MASTERY: A COMPREHENSIVE COURSE ENHANCING GLOBAL ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION

In the era of globalization, the importance of effective communication and collaboration across borders has become increasingly crucial. As a result, a special Global Classroom (GC) session titled "APA Citation Mastery: A Comprehensive Course" was organized on June 12, 2023, at 2.00 p.m.

The course lasted for 2 hours in a hybrid mode, combining physical participation with students at I-Learn UMP Gambang, while others joined remotely via Microsoft Teams.

This initiative, organised by Ms. Amy Zulaikha Mohd Ali, and Ms. Fathiah Izzati Mohamad Fadzillah, was specifically designed for students who had enrolled in the UHL2412 English for Academic Communication course.

It was also conducted in collaboration with Mr. Khodzaev Iskandar, the international guest speaker who is affiliated with Tajik National University, Tajikistan. This collaboration basically helps to foster a global perspective by increasing accessibility, visibility, and learning opportunities for both academicians and students.

As one of the key aspects of the course was to emphasis on developing a global perspective, the collaboration Mr. Khodzaev Iskandar fascinatingly bridge the gap by connecting individuals from different backgrounds and geographical locations, exposing students to diverse global perspectives as they engaged in cross-cultural discussions from a wider range of academic resources.

It is evident that the timing, and the content of the course was well-planned and highly beneficial, as it strategically helped students in preparing for their final assessments. Hence, supplementing students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in correctly citing sources according to APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines, a vital skill in academic writing.

The ability to accurately cite sources in a precise, and inclusive manner would enable students to produce research papers, and assignments of the highest calibre, demonstrating their understanding of the subject matter while upholding to academic integrity standards in higher education.

Notably, the course received such overwhelming positive feedback and participations from the students involved due to its comprehensive, and engaging nature.

Muhammad Aminuddin Anuar, one of the participants involved, stated, "The Global Classroom session on APA citation was truly enlightening. It helped me clarify any doubts I had about citing sources properly, and the collaboration with Mr Khodzaev Iskandar from Tajik National University added a unique international perspective to the discussions. I feel more confident in my ability to cite sources accurately now."

Another student, William Somoni Woris James, expressed his gratitude for the hybrid learning format, saying, "I appreciate the flexibility of being able to attend the course remotely. It allowed me to participate despite being in a different location. The course provided me with the necessary skills to ace my final assessment, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from both local and international perspectives."

To recap, the course successfully met its educational goals, and remarkably improved students’ efficiency with APA style.
