2023 CML ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: A.S.K (ATTITUDE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE)

On November 25, 2023, the first Roundtable Discussion on Komunikasi Efektif bagi Meningkatkan Kebolehpasaran Graduan TVET took place at Tamu Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The 3-days event was successfully organised through the collaborative effort by the Centre for Modern Languages (CML), the Centre for Career Placement and Development (CPDC), and the Department of Student Affairs & Alumni.

The programme greatly involved the participation of 15 invited UMPSA Alumni from diverse professions including 20 academic experts and 4 service centre representatives.

The primary objective was to deliberate, align and succeed the national agenda in line with the UMP Strategic Plan 2021 - 2025 (PS25). Associate Professor Dr. Nik Aloesnita Nik Mohd Alwi, the Dean of Centre for Modern Languages (CML) officiated this gathering and highlighted the needs to implement high level TVET programmes.

Also in attendance were Ts. Dr. Azri Alias, the Director of UMPSA Centre for Alumni Relations, and Associate Professor Dr. Izwan Ismail, the Director of UMPSA Career Centre.

The event featured rounds of sharing sessions and feedback from the Alumni, responding to the questions given, reviewing courses offered in CML, and offering invaluable insights to support a flexible and evolving TVET system aligned with globalisation, technological changes, and growing demand for TVET in the future.

It was also an engaging and mind-blowing session as the alumni shared their remarkable journey towards success, reminiscing the time they had and courses taken from their alma mater, their passion and resilience in overcoming challenges, and most notably sharing useful career tips and the beneficial input from the industries.

The alumni’s feedback provided valuable insights for the enhancement of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. Their experiences in the professional world post-graduation offered unique and authentic perspectives that contribute to the overall quality and relevance of TVET.

Towards the end of the programme, most of the alums generously shared a short video offering words of encouragement, career tips, and advice for recent graduates and undergraduate students of UMPSA.

Overall, this discussion was a game changer in collecting views to outline potential opportunities, improvements and challenges in TVET employability efforts.

It will not end here, as it will be expanded to serve as a platform for detailed discussions, fruitful collaborations, and global achievements for the sustainable future of TVET empowerment.
