The course focuses on preparing students to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters, and deal with most situations likely to arise by reading various types of texts. Also, they will be exposed to listening for information from different sources. Students are expected to produce simple connected text, describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions by composing paragraphs. They are also expected to briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans by participating in discussions. Students will be taught appropriate skills and strategies to enhance all the four aspects of language learning, which are; reading, listening, speaking and writing. This course is defined within the CEFR level A2 and low B1.
By the end of the semester, students should be able to:
CO1: Apply basic reading skills to comprehend straightforward factual texts
CO2: Transfer information based on simple spoken texts
CO3: Write straightforward connected texts on a range of familiar subjects
CO4: Deliver information and opinions on familiar topics of interest
