‘Strategizing online engagement through digital assessments in KALAM’

Since Covid-19 has changed the dynamics of English language teaching and learning, the need to constantly be aware of the current technologies is important to suit the current time and challenges. Knowledge of the use of KALAM and other online technologies is needed to ensure the use of online teaching and learning is easier, smoother, and effective. KALAM is a Learning Management System (LMS) used in UMP to measure ‘blended learning’ achievement of the university. Hence, the need to master its features and tools must be an on-going effort for the academics.

In doing so, E-learning Unit, Centre for Modern Languages (CML) organized a workshop on ‘Strategizing online engagement through digital assessments in KALAM’ on 4th December 2020. The workshop was successfully held in Lab 1, CML, Pekan campus from 9am-12pm. The invited speaker was Ts. Aziman Abdullah from the Faculty of Computing, UMP, who shared a variety of methods in using Kalam, especially for assessment purposes. Attendees included academic staff from both Foreign Language department and English Language department. The workshop exposed participants to many ways to use Kalam such as creating assessments, assessing students' performance and feedback, and sharing ideas. It is hoped that this workshop would provide participants better understanding on creating and assessing digital assessments through KALAM.
