LIFE BELOW WATER: YOUR ROLE IN OCEAN CONSERVATION
20 May 2022 – A webinar entitled Life Below Water: Your Role in Ocean Conservation was organised for students enrolling in the UHL2442 Essential English course semester 2, 2021/2022 in conjunction with their teaching and learning theme for weeks 8 to 10, which was Environmental Issues. The objectives of the webinar are threefold:
- To raise awareness about the protection of the ocean as well as to highlight the fact that the ocean drives global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind.
- To encourage students to be more environmentally conscious individuals who opt to live a more sustainable living for a sustainable future.
- To expose the students to one of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals or casually known as SDGs which is SDG No. 14, Life Below Water.
The webinar which was hosted by Amir Zakwan and Nur Shyzieana Alyia served as an avenue to acknowledge and show support for the Global Goal Number 14 campaign which is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
To meet the desired objectives, Ms. Susan Hills was invited as the honourable guest speaker and she had generously shared plenty of food for thought from her perspectives as a chalet owner in Tioman and as an islander into how can one help save the ocean.
Her top-notch presentation was a testament to her willingness to go the extra mile in ensuring that the context, content, lexical items, videos, and explanation were tailored to the UHL2442 students’ proficiency levels.
Questions from the participants were entertained by Ms. Hills throughout the webinar session and surprisingly, her son Benjamin also partook in the live chat discussion with the participants.
All in all, it is hoped that the valuable insights and frank discussion were impactful enough to usher in new perspectives and ideas so that the participants could take away the wisdom and use it for greater good.
