CSR PROGRAM: TRAINING OF FACILITATORS

On May 26, 2023, the Centre for Modern Languages (CML) had planned and organized a training for facilitators at X-DK-01 (PSK), Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

This initiative was part of the collaboration between the UMP Mandarin Language Society (MLS), Centre for Modern Languages, and GIFT Education Studio to organize a Community Service (CSR) charity event involving career visits and university admission consultation.

The primary objectives of this training were to enhance the language and communication skills of the facilitators and to encourage students to actively participate in volunteering activities while maintaining a balance with their academic requirements.

In addition, the training aimed to foster a sense of camaraderie among facilitators from different faculties through engaging team-building games and activities.

Significantly, it also provided the facilitators with an overview of the program flow, essential input about the upcoming CSR programme, and familiarised them with routes and directions of various different faculties that were also involved, namely the Centre for Advanced Research in Fluid Flow (CARIFF), the Faculty of Science and Industrial Technology (FIST), the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FTKA), and the Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP).

The facilitators were organised into different groups, each tasked with guiding and assisting middle school students who are unfamiliar with UMP’s environment. This approach intended to create a sense of security and enthusiasm for the participants, especially during visits to laboratories in different faculties and when engaging in some experiments.

Altogether, a total of 10 facilitators were assigned to facilitate 25 students from various middle school, including SMJK Hwa Lian Mentakab, SMK Air Putih, SMK Tanah Putih, SMK Gudang Rasau, SMK Sultan Ismail 1, SMK Sultan Ismail 2, and SMK Sultan Ismail.

The facilitators were guided and trained by Ms. Kang Mei Feng and Ms. Neo Xiu Jie from
Centre for Modern Languages (CML).

During the training, Ms. Kang Mei Feng briefed the students on the training objectives and essential information pertaining to the programme. She also delivered a presentation on “Skills to be an Effective Facilitator”.

Meanwhile, Ms. Neo Xiu Jie carried out some ice-breaking with the facilitators to enliven the atmosphere and emphasise the importance of teamwork for the project.

At the end of the training, the facilitators were presented with certificates of participation and gained improved facilitation skills, enabling them to guide and lead participants effectively.
