COURSE REVIEW WORKSHOP MARKS CRUCIAL STEP IN ENHANCING TEACHING AND LEARNING ENGLISH COURSES
To continuously refine the quality of education imparted, the Division of English Language (DEL) from Centre for Modern Languages (CML) recently conducted its Course Review Workshop (CRW) for Semester II, 2023/2024 session. Held over two days, from the 28th to the 29th of February 2024, the workshop served as a platform for comprehensive evaluation and modification of teaching plans, methodologies, and materials implemented for the current semester.
The workshop comprised a few activities which included sharing input from key stakeholders and industry experts, updating teaching materials, and addressing pertinent matters related to teaching and learning (T&L). Among the notable activities were the DEL Meeting No.1/2024 and the CRW sessions.
During the DEL Meeting, several academic staff shared valuable insights on enhancing educational standards, ensuring program quality, and meeting industry relevance, garnered from the Study Committee (SC), Stakeholders (SH), and the Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP) meetings which was held from 24th to 25th February 2024. These inputs provided a holistic understanding of the current landscape that helped to shape discussions regarding T&L strategies for Semester II, 2023/2024.
Then, during the CRW sessions, a focal point of the workshop concentrated on the modification and updating of Teaching Plans (TP), teaching materials, and modules for both UHL and UHE courses. The outcomes of these sessions included the development of updated Weekly Planners and the compilation of the CRW Report, which will serve as a roadmap for future enhancements in curriculum and delivery.
A highlight of the workshop was the CRW Presentation, where the revised methodologies and materials were showcased by the respective coordinators of each course, reflecting the collective efforts of CML instructors toward educational excellence.
Additionally, at the end of the program, all academic staff in CML including DEL and the Division of Foreign Languages (DFL) instructors were briefed on pertinent T&L matters by the Deputy Director of Academics (DDA), Dr. Fatimah binti Ali. She further emphasized the divisions' commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment and nurturing student success.
Dr. Umi Kalsom binti Masrom, Head of DEL, expressed her satisfaction with the outcomes of the workshop, stating, "The Course Review Workshop serves as a cornerstone in our continuous improvement efforts. The collaboration and dedication exhibited by all DEL academic staff reaffirm our commitment to deliver quality education that meets the evolving needs of our students and industry."
All in all, the insights garnered from the CRW are expected to translate into tangible enhancements in teaching methodologies and student learning experiences.
