2023 WeLLT: EMPOWERING TEACHERS TOWARDS QUALITY EDUCATION

12 May 2023 - The eagerly anticipated webinar on Language Learning and Teaching Practices, WeLLT 2023 has successfully commenced in hybrid mode.

Organised by Centre for Modern Languages (CML) in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL), this year’s webinar was even more memorable as the academic discussion was held live from the CML Recording Studio with the attendance of diverse line-up of panellists:

  • Associate Professor Dr. Sedat Akayglu, Department of Foreign Language Education at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, Turkiye
  • Professor Dr. Shameem Rafik Ghalea, Faculty of Education, Languages and Psychology, SEGI University Malaysia.
  • Associate Professor Dr Noor Raha Mohd Radzuan, Centre for Modern Languages, Universiti Malaysia Pahang

The academic discussion was moderated by Mr. Mohd Shafeirul Zaman Abdul Majid. The discussion encompassed a wide range of topics on teaching practices crucial to professional developments.

The topics include integration of artificial intelligence in classroom, effective teaching practices and how to maintain work-life balance amongst educators. This is especially pivotal as the event was attended by local high school teachers, language teachers and lecturers.

In addition to the enlightening academic discussion, Emeritus Professor Dr. Azirah Hashim from the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya also shared her recording on “60 years of International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA) and still growing”.

The hybrid webinar has also received an enthusiastic response from its online attendees. This virtual platform provided a unique opportunity for participants from all over the world to come together and engage in meaningful discussions.

The exchange of ideas during the webinar was not only intriguing but also highly insightful, as experts and enthusiasts shared their diverse perspectives on language learning and teaching.

The webinar also placed a strong emphasis on the crucial theme of quality education in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The discussions delved into various aspects, including innovative teaching methods, inclusive education practices, and the integration the integration of AI in classroom, exploring its potential benefits and challenges.

By addressing the SDGs, the webinar highlighted the importance of providing quality education, fostering language skills development and promoting intercultural understanding. The diverse perspectives shared during the event provided valuable insights into how language teaching and learning can contribute to the achievement of the SDGs towards quality education.

In conclusion, the webinar proved to be a resounding success. The interactive and engaging environment of the webinar facilitated fruitful conversations and encouraged participants to explore innovative approaches in language teaching and learning.
